Walhalla’s five-game winning streak has given way to back-to-back losses to Abbeville and Friday to Crescent in overtime. Razorbacks coach John Boggs said the last week’s loss was filled with mental errors, but the Tigers did a good job to control the line of scrimmage.
Walhalla (5-3, 1-2) also played its first game without senior defensive end Easton Smith, who suffered two broken vertebrae in his neck against Abbeville, the team’s H-back, and best pass rusher with eight sacks.
“We’ve played a lot better this year than what we played Friday night, ” Boggs said. “It’s a shame a game like that is so big for the region, and you just lay an egg.”
Against Pendleton this week, Walhalla hopes to duplicate the effort that helped it win 28-27 last year, which snapped a five-game losing streak in the series.
“We’ve got to get another region win if we want to make the postseason,” Boggs said. “They’re a very good, very talented football team. For a team that’s lost a lot of starters, they’ve done a good job of replacing those guys.”
