PENDLETON Roughly six months after a threat was allegedly made to the life of an Anderson County Middle School teacher, a man accused in the incident was arrested when the warrant in that case surfaced during a traffic stop.
Bradley Bowman, 20, of Five Forks Road in Pendleton, released hours after his arrest and booking at the Anderson County Detention Center, is charged with threatening the life of a teacher, according to Detention Center records and his attorney.
Bowman is also charged with the possession of less than 28 grams of marijuana, according to records.
“Basically, he has done nothing wrong,” attorney Raymond MacKay said of Bowman, his client.
According to the Anderson County Sheriff's Office, Bowman allegedly made the threat to a 61-year-old teacher from Walhalla around 3:15 p.m. May 7 on the grounds of Riverside Middle School at 458 Riverside St. in Pendleton.
MacKay said the report is not correct.
The May incident was a result of Bowman's vehicle moving out of its designated space during an afterschool pickup, and the teacher banging on the hood of Bowman's vehicle in an attempt to stop Bowman, MacKay said Thursday during a call to the Independent-Mail. A verbal confrontation erupted between Bowman and his former teacher, who taught Bowman at Pendleton High School, MacKay said.
Luther Lyle, the alleged victim, declined to comment on the incident when reached Thursday, but he said it was appropriate to arrest Bowman.
A warrant initially was denied for an assault with intent to kill charge against Bowman, but the teacher persistence's resulted in a judge signing a warrant for Bowman's arrest, MacKay said.
The deputy's report indicated that Bowman was armed when arrested around 11:15 p.m. Tuesday, according to the booking report.
MacKay said his client was not armed and was arrested after a traffic stop in Pelzer.
Susann Griffin, Sheriff's Office spokeswoman, confirmed MacKay's assessment of the arrest.
Bowman, who was released from jail on Wednesday with a $5,537 signature bond, thought the school issue had been resolved months ago and was not aware that a warrant had been issued for his arrest, MacKay said.
The drug charge is based on the officer's discovery of marijuana in Bowman's vehicle, MacKay said.

Six MONTHS and an arrest is finally made? No wonder school violence is a problem. This is horrible. How can threats to a teacher on school property be tolerated?
